Above the Rim Basketball School's weekly evening program is comprised of a series of ninety minute sessions. The students focus one specific basketball skill per session. They go through a number of drills, working on the fundamentals of that specific skill. There is also a mini-clinic each session, describing the importance of the skill and teaching the students how to integrate it into game play. After going over the "basketball skill of the day" the students play in well-structured and organized scrimmages.
The scrimmages will be used as an educational tool to reinforce the skill taught that evening. The final component of the weekly evening program will be a group tournament. Participants have a chance to win prizes at the end of the last session.
The skills outlined in the curriculum are fundamental components of the game that are important for players to master in order to become good basketball players. As such, players from all levels and abilities (including the pros) constantly work at mastering, or in some cases maintaining these skills. Therefore, the weekly evening program is suitable for players of all abilities.
Our mandate is to develop skills. This leads to confidence and competence on the court and fosters desire to play basketball, be active and have fun. Please refer to our calendar of events or a City of Ottawa program guide for a location near you.
