About Us
Since the creation of Above the Rim Basketball School in 1997, the program has grown in leaps and bounds. Originally established as a one week overnight summer basketball camp located in Richmond, Quebec, Above the Rim Basketball School now runs summer day camp, March Break day camps and weekly evening programs across the city of Ottawa, North Grenville and Iqaluit.
To further illustrate the integrity of the program:
- Above the Rim Basketball School is contracted by the City of Ottawa to run weekly evening programs as well as summer day camps and March Break day camps for Nepean, Orleans, Kanata, Central Ottawa, Richmond and Stittsville.
- Many Native Communities in Canada's North have worked with Above the Rim Basketball School in their home communities to develop youth basketball skills in a safe and fun environment.
- Above the Rim Basketball School conducts day and/or weekend clinics for schools. We continue to be commissioned by the city of Iqaluit yearly to work with the youth in that community.
The main reason for Above the Rim Basketball School's success is the high quality of the teaching and coaching staff. All coordinators are certified coaches or teachers with a vast degree of experience. The staff consists of teachers and coaches from elementary and high school as well as community leaders from a variety of professional organizations. We are proud of our leadership development program that enables us to train high school and university students who work with our professional staff. The high standard of instruction is maintained by the balance of coaches' knowledge of the game, their thrill for basketball and their professionalism when dealing with children. The staff is sensitive to the needs of each individual.
Above the Rim Basketball School offers quality instruction for players of all abilities aged six years to adult. Participants of Above the Rim Basketball School's summer day camps, March Break camps and evening programs have the opportunity to improve their fundamental skills through instruction, drill work, stations, contests and games.
